Thermal cameras, also known as infrared (IR) cameras, are devices that enable the acquisition of information about the temperature of an object, process, or material. These cameras, due to the nature of their sensor or sensitivity in the electromagnetic spectrum, are classified into categories such as NIR (near-infrared), SWIR (short-wave infrared), InGaAs (indium, gallium, and arsenic), MWIR (mid-wave infrared), and LWIR (long-wave infrared).

There are various types of sensors and cameras on the market, offering capabilities ranging from raw photon count values to the interpretation and processing of these values, even generating images. The choice of sensor and camera is crucial for the successful implementation of a radiometric solution, as each application may require a more suitable type of sensor than another.

It is important to note that not all processes require an absolute temperature measurement. In many cases, understanding the temperature change during the process and conducting a comprehensive characterization of it are sufficient to monitor its performance.

For radiometry or non-contact temperature measurement, it is essential to adjust the sensors with the appropriate optics to the process through a calibration procedure. Calibration data is stored in the image processing system to interpret values in degrees Celsius (or Fahrenheit).

At EXOM Engineering, we provide guidance to select the suitable camera and optics, working with various camera manufacturers. We have the capability to integrate multiple cameras to cover different ranges in the electromagnetic spectrum. Additionally, we perform radiometric calibration, even up to temperatures of 1500°C, and make range corrections if the use of optical filters becomes necessary after implementing the solution.

Our service also includes supporting companies in data or image processing through integrated solutions, facilitating real-time monitoring and process control. We are committed to delivering comprehensive and customized solutions to meet the specific needs of our clients.
